While there can be many possible contenders, Dedoimedo thinks that the best looking Linux Distribution is Mint Linux and we can’t agree more. Theoretically speaking any Linux distribution can be made to look like any other, but when we say best  looking, of course it means best looking out of the box. There may be better looking Linux distros out there, but if you take in to account the usefulness, not one would have as comprehensive a set of applications as Mint Linux, primarily because it is a derivative of Ubuntu, this also translates in to support for wide range of hardwares and configurations. Whether it is the looks or wise selection of default package set, Linux Mint is ranked second among all distros, right after Ubuntu on Distrowatch’s top distro list, based on the page hits.

If you haven’t tried it yet then I would advise you to take a look at it now. Make sure that you download the DVD installer and not the CD installer, as it includes Java, VLC, F-Spot, OpenOffice.org-base, Samba, additional wallpapers and ttf-dejaVu fonts. You don’t need to waste a DVD for burning it. You can just use your 1 GB or bigger USB drive for the installation as described here.

Another great thing is that Mint Linux comes pre-installed with plenty of other useful programs (Picasa, Google Earth, Gnome Open Terminal Here etc.), audio codecs and video codecs, which saves you the hassle of having to install them. We can’t praise the Menu that comes with Gnome in the Linux Mint, which certainly enhances the work flow and puts it in par with Windows 7 menu without being intimidating as the KDE menu. It does enhance the user experience quite a bit. Give it a try and you would love it!
