Default look for emacs

If you like black background for emacs then you can do so by editing the .emacs file in your home (\home\username) directory. Just add the following lines in your .emacs file and save it to change the background color from black to white.

gedit .emacs

Now add these lines and save the file

;;to set foreground color to white
(set-foreground-color "white")

;;to set background color to black
(set-background-color "black")

Alternatively, you can change these settings and more from within the emacs by going to Options > Customize Emacs > Browse Customization Groups menu

This would open a frame like this within emacs.

Clicking on the [+] expands that Group. Browse to the Group > Faces > Basic Faces and click on Face Default.

It would open another frame which allows you to change settings. These settings are shown below. In the screenshot below, I have changed the value for Height from 120 to 100, Foreground has been changed to white and Background has been changed to black after you are done making all the changes, click on Save for future sessions and restart emacs.

Now you should have customized emacs with black background and smaller font size.
