To change default boot choice for Fedora 15 dual or multiboot configuration where you are dual booting and want to have Windows as default auto boot choice, or the other way round, you can change the default boot choice in Fedora 15 by editing the file /boot/grub/grub.conf

vi /boot/grub/grub.conf

Now you just need to change the number in front of the parameter default =0

Remember, to edit a file in vi you first need to press i, then it allows you to edit the file. After you have made changes, you need to press Esc key followed by :wq this is the command to save the file.

# grub.conf generated by anaconda
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE:  You have a /boot partition.  This means that
#          all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
#          root (hd0,0)
#          kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_parshuram-lv_root
#          initrd /initrd-[generic-]version.img

The parameter default= determines which boot choice is executed, and the count starts from 0, so if Windows shows up at number 4 in your Boot Menu (the items listed below hiddenmenu, each boot item begins with a title statement, so count to the location of title statement for Windows), change this number to default=3.

Vaule of timeout= decides the delay before default boot choice is executed and if you don’t want the Boot Menu to be hidden, comment out hiddenmenu by replacing it with #hiddenmenu
