DVDFab is a well known commercial DVD ripping (decrypter) and encoding software. However, they offer HD Decrypter for free which can be used to rip (backup) any Blu-ray disk to your hard drive after removing any possible protection on the Blu-ray.
The software offers several modes for copying the Blu-ray disk, e.g. you can copy the entire disk as it is to your hard drive or another Blu-ray disk, or you can choose to copy just the mail movie.
When you first launch the software it would ask you to select the region to which the disk belongs to. After the scanning of disk was over I clicked on Main Movie under Blu-ray to Blu-ray menu option.
It scanned the disk again, once the scanning was over, I chose the BD25 1080p option to copy the disk, instead of the standard BD50 10180p option which would have hogged some 41 GB space, the current option would only take away 24 GB space.
I hit the Next button to start the Blu-ray ripping. It takes a while to rip the video to the drive.
The resulting file is in .m2ts format which can be converted to a regular avi or mkv file using MeGUI (another free software), usage of which is described here (though it is for .vob file, the approach is identical).
