DVD Shrink offers an easy and free way to back up your DVDs in Windows (all versions). It automatically re-sizes the DVD content to fit a standard 4.3 GB which you can burn again on a DVD using any DVD authoring application. You can use DVD Shrink to do it for you if you have at least a trial version of Nero installed. Remember it is just for copying the DVD content and won’t encode your DVD. There are several other tools for encoding and handbrake is probably the best bet an it is free too, read this post for more info. Download it for free from here or here.

You can further edit the content you want to grab off the DVD, such as languages and subtitles etc. Just make the selection by checking or un-checking the boxes from the scanned content.

Click on backup and select location to save the ripped DVD video and you should have a backup of the DVD in some 15-20 minutes time.
