You can have the Leopard (Mac OSX) style dock or launcher in Linux by using Avant Window Navigator (AWN). Off late it has become very stable and it works great with lots of animation choices for your dock icons. You can install it on your linux machine (Ubuntu 9.10 or Fedora 12) by doing this:

sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator awn-manager awn-applets*
yum install avant-window-navigator awn-manager awn-applets*

It supports different themes as well.
