You recently moved your wordpress blog to a new location, and you want to redirect your visitors to your blog at its new address. Creation of a simple php based redirection script (like the one shown below) won’t be very helpful for you:
<?php /* Redirect browser */ header("Location: http://yournewwebsitelocation/"); /* Make sure that code below does not get executed when we redirect. */ exit; ?>
This would just redirect to your new root page, it won’t take the visitors coming via the search results or through other referring website to the desired correct post at it’s corresponding location. Solution is in a very simple to use plugin called Redirection . Download it install it and go to its setting page, just create a redirection rule with:
Source url: Your present blog’s location (root location)
Match: URL & referrer Action: Redirect to URL
Target URL: New address for your blog (root location)
This should help your blog to transition smoothly to its new address without loosing any traffic.
